Busy Campaign Weekend; 5 States Vote!

It may not be "Super Tuesday" but this is a busy weekend for Presidential candidates and voters in 5 states.

In all 185 Democratic delegates are at stake, along with 74 Republican.

The states voting are Louisiana, Kansas (GOP), Nebraska (D), Washington state, all on Saturday. Maine Democrats will cast their ballots Sunday. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will inch closer to the GOP nomination this weekend, but will still be a few hundred votes shy.
All this sets the stage for what is now being called the "Potomac Primaries" on Tuesday when ballots will be cast in Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland.

In Lousiana a close race is being forecast between Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL). The state continues to recover from Hurricane Katrina, an issue that will face the next President. Obama spent most of Thursday in New Orleans, and Bill Clinton arrived Friday for last minute rallies on behalf of his wife.

Some analysts believe the normally reliable Republican state is "in play" this year after the Republican President's poor disaster response. But the state's former Democratic Governor and the Mayor of New Orleans also failed heavily in that repsonse, which hurts their party too. The fact that Lousiana has since elected a Republican Governor, means no one can lay claim to this state for November just yet!
Louisiana has 66 Democratic delegates and 47 Republican delegates, all awarded on a proportional basis.

Sunday I travel to Washington, DC to cover Tuesday's "Potomac Primaries." Check in for the latest at www.MarkCurtisMedia.blogspot.com
